How to decide on your style: An Overview
People often wonder what kind of hairstyle will fit them best, and
why some people look so good in certain hair styles. There are
hairstyles that fit certain faces and the trick is in identifying which
hairstyle is good for which face.
Men
Round face: A round or circular face has a length which is almost
same as its width.
Hairstyles which are more in height and fuller at the top of the head
are very suitable for these faces. Hair of short or medium length looks
great if a spike hairstyle is used. If the hair is longer, the hair
should be near the cheeks in order for the width to be reduced. The
middle parts of the hair are great to cover the cheeks.
Oval face: An oval face kind of looks like an egg. The length of the
face is around 1.5 times that of the width, with the jaw and the
forehead being of equal width.
An oval face can sport short, long or other length of hair without
much problem. Only care has to be taken if a certain part of the face
needs to be brought to attention.
Heart face: A heart face has larger length of forehead and cheeks and
narrows down at the chin.
A heart face needs to make the width of the face larger at the chin,
so textured or wispy hairstyles reaching up to the chin will look good.
If you have short hair, use a layer of slightly spiky hair on the top
and shorten the hair on the sides. To bring attention to your forehead,
use a side swept fringe hairstyle.
Square face: A face with equal length and width is a square face.
A square face looks good in short or medium length hair. Round
hairstyles, curvy hairstyles and adding layers to the hair, especially
at the top of the head, is very effective. Keeping the sides in a lean
and short fashion and making the top a bit longer and higher will be
good.
Triangle face: A triangle face has a wide face which is narrower towards
the forehead. Short hair can be used to balance the face along with
hairstyles that have fuller hair in the forehead area. Addition of many
layers will give a fuller effect.
Women
Square face: A hairstyle that is soft, with wisps and layers is
preferable. The hair should cover the sides of the face and some off
center portions can also be used for a good effect. Having too short
hair is not advisable. Bangs can be used, but it is better not to use
them straight; wispy styles will be more effective.
Round faces: A round face needs to use a longer hairstyle to show
more length of the face. Styles that add some amount of height at the
top of the head, or a longer layered style will be very suitable.
Heart face: Women with heart faces can sport a short hairstyle, but
the top layers should be softer and longer, or side swept styles can be
used. Women with longer hair should sport long and wavy layers which
reach up to the cheeks and add an element of roundness to the face.
Oval face: An oval face has the option of using many different
hairstyles. Adding a little hair volume to the top is always a good
idea. Either a long or short hairstyle can work, but the hair should be
kept uniform in length. Adding excessive layers will cause excessive
volume and that is to be avoided. A long and wispy hairstyle is very
effective in case of oval faces.
